AC/DC 1974

I always thought that AC/DC circa 1974 sounded like, well, sounded like 74 Jailbreak, but evidently they sounded a lot like Sweet. Thanks to Cousin J for sending me a link to this crazy-ass AC/DC promo clip prior to Bon Scott, Phil Rudd, and Cliff Williams from even joining up.
Malcolm looks like he's about seventeen and Angus looks like he doesn't even hold a license yet. You'll notice that, even though this doesn't come close to the power that the Scott-era band unleashed, Angus still shuffles back and forth, keeping perfect time while playing.
That's Dave Evans on lead vocals, sporting a very glam look. But it's the music that really gets your attention. The band is past thirty-five years old now and they're know for exactly one style of rock and roll. For real, this band has deviated maybe a few inches throughout their entire career, and come to find out that in their earliest incarnations they did manage to examine another facet of the rock sound.
The song was originally written when Malcolm Young was in his band prior to AC/DC. The band was called The Velvet Underground, seemingly unaware that in America had pretty much sealed the deal on anyone ever being able to stake claim to the moniker.
It's kind of catchy, but they certainly wouldn't get thirty-five plus years of mileage out of it.

Additionally, if you want to hear one more with Dave on vocals, check on the you-tubes for "Rockin' In The Parlour". It's just images set to decent quality audio of the b-side of "Can I Sit Next To You Girl". These are apparently the only two songs they ever recorded with Evans. ON a side note, I got the new AC/DC release Backtracks for $24 & it's kind of interesting especially to the completist in me. Contrary to what you may have heard or read there are NO tracks on this release that were on Bonfire. There are 7 Bon Scott tracks on this that I had NEVER heard before ranging from awesome to meh... There are several throwaway unreleasd studio tracks with Brian Johnson but the real shocker is the there is one very good unreleased Johnson track from the 'Blow Up Your Video' sessions that's better than any song between 'Flick of the Switch' to 'Black Ice'. There's only 2 live tunes that suck due to Brian Johnson's jacked up voice. There's a 8 minute live version of Jailbreak sung by Johnson that's clearly 5 minutes too long. There's a DVD that is part 3 of Family Jewels whick I have not watched yet but look forward too cause I love watching Bon Scott ham it up.

Oh, Totale don't mind the links from outside; he's an absolute whore for attention!! ;-)

I bought the first 4 AC/DC CDs in their Aussie versions (Oz-only versions which are no longer available) just to have the rare stuff which is now on that box set. I still have to see this version of "Can I Sit Next...".
